St. Norbert CYO offers athletic activities for all students of active parishioners in the St. Norbert Parish community. While we encourage a variety of activities of a social nature and Christian service, our main offering to the parish is sports. Our registrations are accepted using the CYO recommended Wagdogs.com and announcements will be made, as they open, on our homepage.
No matter the program below, we encourage all our teams to participate in a Community Service endeavor during the season. Also, we are always looking for Volunteers that follow these requirements.
Our CYO does not offer football directly, like our other programs. However, we do work with St. Patrick’s of Malvern CYO to provide the opportunity. We have no control over registrations, etc., but direct you to there website to find out more information.
Our soccer program is co-ed and we have 2 levels. Our JV program is for grades 5 and 6, while our Varsity program is for those students in 7 and 8th grade. Games usually run until the end of October with playoffs sometimes running into early November. As stated earlier, this a co-ed program, and there are no cuts. Usually there is limited practice time/location and it is up to the discretion of the coach(es). Games can be any time during the week/weekends.
Field Hockey, like soccer, is offered as a JV and Varsity program. Practice is usually daily, with games mixed in during the week. This is for girls grades 5 thru 8. This program also ends in late October/early November.
Our one and only program offered in the winter, starting in November, is basketball. This is our largest program offering with multiple teams at the JV and Varsity level, as well as High School offerings. However, this is also our largest program offering.
The JV and Varsity programs (Grades 5-8) are the only programs with tryouts. These typically coincide with All Saints’ Day, November 1, and are held over 2 days. Times will be posted on this website as they are announced. There are 2 levels in these programs, JV/Varsity A and B. Varsity A is typically the best 10-12 at those levels (depending on registration numbers), while the rest of the children are split among multiple B teams, as evenly as possible. If you and your child feel you could be an A player, we do ask that they make both tryouts for consideration. We do understand there may be extenuating circumstances that will preclude him/her from attending both, however. There are no cuts, though. “A” teams begin practices as soon as possible after teams are announced, as they play in tournaments over Thanksgiving and start games earlier then B teams. B teams begin practice in mid November with games starting in early December. Schedules can be found at the CYO Region 32 website.
There are no tryouts for the other levels. High School boys are split into a grade 9/10 and grade 11/12 level, and as with all our programs, there are no cuts. HS Girls of all grades are combined into 1 team. Games for both typically start in December, with practices starting in late November/early December.
We have offered a Biddy Ball (grade 1/2) and JJV (grade 3/4) program in the past. This has typically involved drills and practices, but no games against other schools. In the recent past, we have offered parents the opportunity to attend St. Monica’s program in Berwyn. Keep an eye on our website for program updates.
Track and Field
Track and field is offered for grades 4-8 in the Spring. Track meets are held on the weekend, with practices after school during the week. Practices begin sometime in March/early April. The coach will let you know the practice schedule and meet days/times.
Our baseball program has been hit or miss through the years, and is dependent on Coaches as well as student numbers. We have teamed with St. Monica’s in the past when numbers have been low. As always, if you’re willing to coach, we would appreciate the volunteers for this program.
